For hundreds of years after the death of Muhammad, many of the well-known Muslim scholars upheld the integrity of the Bible. At Tabari was a former Christian whose life was marked by his defense of Islam before the Jews and the Christians while he was at Baghdad (capital of the Muslim world in his time). He wrote under the direction of the reigning Abbasid Caliph Mutawakkil (847–861 ad). At no time did he charge the Jews or the Christians with corrupting their Scriptures. He acknowledged that the authentic Torah and Gospel remained in the hands of the Jews and the Christians. He wrote a famous book called, The Book of Religion and Empire, in which he wrote: “As to the Gospel which is in the hands of the Christians, the greater part of it is the history of the Christ, His birth and His life.”
It is not rational to suppose that Christians and Jews throughout the world could meet and agree on the alterations of their Holy Scripture. History shows (as well as the Qur’an in Surah 2:113) that the Jews and Christians have had major doctrinal differences between them, and they have been in disagreement regarding many religious issues.
We also read in many verses in the Qur’an (such as in Surah 3:19 and Surah 98:4) that Christians were divided into sects. So if the Scriptures had been changed to alter doctrine, at least one of the many sects that existed within Judaism or Christianity at that time would have protested. Yet there is no historical mention of any such accusation or dissension.
My dear Muslim reader, it is only fair that I ask you to examine the evidence with objectivity. Because any accusation that the Bible was altered raises serious questions which demand answers from those Muslims who are making the accusation. When did this alleged alteration of the Holy Scripture occur? Read more
Religious matters are the most complicated and complex issues in the world. There is need for peaceful co-existence of Muslims and Christians in the world .A Muslim once said ‘’ It may be a theological question whether God reveals religion through his messenger, his prophet or his son .Irrespective of the position ones takes on this issue, one should be reasonable enough to know that God, like the father of any household, can never be satisfied with members of his family who quarrel, fight, undermine and sometimes kill one another in his name ‘’
It’s a pity that some Muslim are indeed conscious of what God is supposed to be, yet personally, we may be doing the wrong thing with all sincerity. Why? Because we may have found ourselves in a system that is very difficult to leave. Many continue in a religious system because they are yet to understand the nature of the deception they have fallen into.
Many Muslims mistakenly think and teach that the Qur’an came to replace the Holy Scripture of the Jews and the Christians (the Bible). There is a misconception that it became corrupted, altered, outdated, or lost. I will briefly address such allegations and provide some evidence to show the contrary.
Do not believe those who tell you it is unnecessary to read the Bible. Their opinion contradicts the Qur’an itself. The Qur’an states clearly that all Muslims must follow and obey the teachings of the previous Holy Scripture (The Bible). The following Surahs are clear on this subject:
Surah 2:136 states: “Say ye: ‘we believe in Allah and the revelation given to us and to Abraham… and that given to Moses and Jesus and that given to (all) Prophets from their Lord we make no difference between one and another of them: and we bow to Allah (in Islam).”
